I’ve put off writing this for a while, but finally, here’s some side-by-sides of the multiple months of work in our kitchen.

A New Year’s Update
After being out of the country for a couple of weeks, we were anxious to get back and see what progress had been made at the house. I’m happy to say a lot was done at the house and we are so, so close to wrapping up the full project… but not quite there yet.
Walking in the front door brought a huge surprise, of new paint, new floors and all of the dust and clutter gone. Oh and look at that kitchen! Continue reading
We have Kitchen Cabinets
Ok, it took a few more days than I had hoped, but yesterday all of our cabinets got installed. We don’t have to look at all of the boxes thrown about the house either. Well, not the cabinet boxes at least.
CABINETS ARE COMING!
With all of the stressful little decisions that have to constantly be made, I’ve found myself losing sight of an end. But with so much progress now coming together, I can actually start remembering the beautiful cabinets we’ll be installing in the kitchen, the ridiculous appliances and awesome light fixtures that have been collecting dust for the last month.New floors are in, walls are primed and cabinet installation should be beginning today! Some of the electrical and plumbing work has taken longer than we had hoped, but things are finally progressing nicely. Continue reading
Kitchen Cont’d: There are holes in the floor.
Did I mention that demolition is gross and living through it isn’t much fun? Shocker, I know.
Right now, there are massive holes on the main level going down to the basement. One of the culprits is that we made a game-time decision to move the cold air return that was taking up way too much space, leaving a big hole that we’ll need to fill.
Kitchen Demolition: The Quarantine Begins
Coming Soon: new kitchen
It’s been a while since we’ve posted, or frankly renovated, but that’s in the process of changing… now.
We’re working with some great contractors to help us finally do some of the big renovations we’ve been waiting on since we moved in 3 years ago including a full expansion and renovation of the kitchen and main floor, adding a half bath, refinishing the basement and a bunch of other projects along the way.
As demolition kicks off and lots of the unsexy parts of the project begin, let’s just take a moment and look at the kitchen design layout and imagine how great it’s going to be.
Look out for lots more to come soon!
Weekend One: Changing Up the Floor
When we first saw our house, we both looked at each other, eyes wide, after seeing the … less-than-flattering carpeting covering the entire living space. It wasn’t just that we hated carpet (which we mostly do) but the bright emerald and cranberry colors really got us. I mean, I love Christmas as much as the next guy, but I can do without it on my floors every day.
So we knew the FIRST thing we had to do once we got the keys was to get it out.
When you move into your own house for the first time, there’s really nothing like tearing, ripping and prying years of filth away. So within minutes of opening the door for the first time, that’s exactly what we did.
