Closing up the Basement
Some updates in the basement. Drywall is up and new floors are going in.
We opted for a wood-grain ceramic tile. It’s low maintenance and looks so much better than the emerald green carpet we had to get rid of.
Kitchen Cont’d: There are holes in the floor.
Did I mention that demolition is gross and living through it isn’t much fun? Shocker, I know.
Right now, there are massive holes on the main level going down to the basement. One of the culprits is that we made a game-time decision to move the cold air return that was taking up way too much space, leaving a big hole that we’ll need to fill.
Kitchen Demolition: The Quarantine Begins
I knew it was going to be terrifying, but *inhale* we are now kitchenless. 
Goodbye, Kitchen
Ok, a lot of the projects we’ve been working on thus far haven’t been the most sexy. That’s about to change.
The kitchen is about to be demolished and rebuilt to a big, beautiful thing. But first, we had to get all of our shit out of the kitchen, dining and rear room of the house. We have a lot of things.
I really, really, really am not going to miss this kitchen. Not the pink counter tops. Not the multi-colored cabinets. Not the cabinet shelves that were never secured properly. No, really none of it.
Framing in the Basement
Now that the floor is leveled, we’re reframing in all of the walls and reducing more bulkhead sizes!
That’s where the ugly support beam was exposed, Sealing it up will make the basement look a lot cleaner and neater.
Day 2: Leveling the Basement Floor
With the cement board down, the next step is to put concrete down to level the various layers out.
Next, they’ll wrap up the cement leveling, then get ready for the new tile to go down. In case you don’t recall, that alone is going to be a huge improvement from what the flooring was before.
Finishing up the Second Floor
The first part of the project has just about wrapped up, and moving into the kitchen part of the renovation is getting nearer.
Earlier this week, the contractors sealed up the windows, finished the drywall work and got paint up on the walls.
Leveling the Basement Floor
Once the floor demolition was complete, the next step was to level it out.
Sine there were multiple materials at different levels in the basement, we wanted to make it uniform before putting the new floor down. Here, we tore out the existing wood and rebuilt a leveled platform with cement board on top. 
Day 2: Gutting the Basement
As the basement demolition continues, we’re still making great progress.. The bathroom is now gone and lots little features have been taken care of. With every wall that comes down, the space seems bigger and bigger.
